If you're seeking a therapist who understands, who listens, and who can guide you to a more fulfilling life, you've come to the right place. I'm Tricia Verno, a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in Virginia. I enjoy working with adults, from high school seniors to senior adults.
If you're interested in scheduling a free, 15-minute consultation or have any inquiries, I'd love to hear from you!
Hi, I'm Tricia Verno, LPC, and I'm passionate about helping people like you find healing and live more fulfilling lives. My journey to becoming a therapist started long ago, and it's been shaped by diverse experiences in community mental health, group practice, and specialized treatment centers (addiction and eating disorders). I believe that therapy is a collaborative process, and I'm committed to creating a safe, supportive space where you can explore your challenges and discover your strengths.
My goal as a therapist is to empower you to heal from the past, live fully in the present, and create a future filled with hope. I believe that everyone has the capacity for growth and change, and I'm here to help you unlock your potential. I know what it's like to struggle and can offer personal hope with healing. With specialized trainings in the areas I treat, I offer a compassionate and effective approach to therapy. I love learning and keeping up with developments in my field.
On a personal note, I'm a Richmond native who enjoys going to the dog park, being outside in nature, reading, tennis, travel, and being creative.
Do you find yourself reliving painful memories or struggling to trust others? Trauma can leave deep emotional scars, but healing is possible. I provide a safe and supportive space to process your experiences, using specialized techniques like Attachment-Focused EMDR to help you reclaim your life and build healthier relationships. I understand the complexities of trauma, including generational and relational wounds, and I'm here to guide you toward a place of peace and resilience. I also have experience treating religious traumas from different faith backgrounds.
Are you caught in a cycle of restrictive eating, bingeing, or purging? Do you struggle with feeling comfortable in your body? Eating disorders can feel isolating and overwhelming, but you don't have to face them alone. I have experience working with individuals struggling with all types of eating disorders, including working at multiple eating disorder treatment centers. I can help you develop a healthier relationship with food and your body, and I can also facilitate connections with registered dietitians to provide comprehensive support. Together, we can work towards lasting recovery.
Is addiction impacting your life and relationships? I've been attending trainings in this field for over a decade and I understand the challenges you're facing. I provide a compassionate and non-judgmental approach to help you break free from destructive patterns. We'll focus on stopping the out-of-control behaviors and then delve into the underlying issues that fuel your addiction, empowering you to create a healthier and more fulfilling life. This includes sexual anorexia and love avoidance.
Do you experience overwhelming feelings of sadness, anxiety, or irritability? Mood disorders can significantly impact your daily life, but they are treatable. Anxiety and depression often co-occur as part of trauma, eating disorders, addiction, and personality disordes. I offer evidence-based therapies to help you manage your symptoms, develop coping skills, and cultivate a sense of inner peace. Together, we can work towards restoring balance and well-being in your life.
CBT helps you identify and change distorted thought patterns and behaviors that may be contributing to your struggles. We'll work together to develop practical coping skills and strategies for managing challenging situations. Includes exposure therapy useful for anxiety issues.
DBT focuses on building emotional regulation skills, improving interpersonal communication, developing mindfulness techniques, and learning to skillfully tolerate situations that will not change quickly. I was on a DBT treatment team for 10 years and enjoy teaching clients DBT skills. If needed, I can refer clients to a full DBT treatment team.
AF-EMDR is a specialized approach that helps you process and heal from traumatic experiences, particularly those related to attachment and relationships. This method can help you develop a deeper understanding of yourself and build healthier connections with others. EMDR can also be used to treat other "stuck" symptoms, such as long term depression, compulsions, or low self-esteem.
MI is a collaborative approach that helps you explore your ambivalence about change and identify your own motivations for growth. We'll work together to set realistic goals and develop a plan for achieving them.
EFIT helps clients create a secure, positive connection with themself, often after this has been negatively effected by depression, anxiety, and trauma. This enhanced self-awareness and relationship with self helps create healthier interpersonal relationships.
For those who desire it, I offer the option to integrate Christian faith into the therapy process. If your spiritual beliefs are an important part of your life, we can explore how they can support your healing journey.
